Colt King Cobra 357 Magnum
Colt’s a double-action/single-action .357 Magnum King Cobra debuted in 2019. It’s a steel 6-shooter that has an interchangeable front ramp sight, full-length snag-free ejector, and a transfer bar safety to prevent accidentally discharging the gun if dropped, etc.
King Cora builds on the success of the .38 Special Colt Cobra lineup that was relaunched in 2017. It must have taken but a nano-second to conceptualize the Colt King Cobra. It takes the essence of the Colt Cobra and repurposes it for a more powerful, more imposing caliber.
The King Cobra frame looks classic, except it’s not. The grip sits further back than in classic revolvers improving handling. The shape is still an arc, but a longer one. The cylinder has backward bullet fluting. At the bottom is an angular oval trigger guard in place of the more common egg-shaped oval. The angled bottom bulge leaves extra room for gloved operations. It’s perhaps noteworthy that this gun can also fire .38 Special ammo.
Let’s examine the three King Cobra variants. The base King Cobra Carry DAO has a heavy-duty frame with a rounded corner butt, 2” barrel, brushed stainless steel finish, and a Hogue black over-molded rubber grip with excellent finger recesses. It uses a simple front sight and a frame trench rear one. Overall length is 7.0”.
The second model is nearly identical to the first, except it has matte stainless steel instead of a brushed stainless steel finish

Last is the remarkably different Colt King Cobra Target. It’s longer and heavier than its two King Cobra siblings mainly because it features a significantly longer 4.25” barrel. The frame has a square corner bottom and a matte stainless finish. Additionally, the Target model differs in its fiber optic front sight that sits elevated atop a ramp. The rear sight is adjustable. The grips are custom wood with texturizing on the back, nice wood contour swirls, and a metallic Colt medallion at the top instead of at the center.
